Luton came from a goal down today and with 10 men after goalkeeper Carl Emberson was sent off for handling outside the area to win 3-2 at Oakwell against Barnsley.

In a pulsating second-half performance from the Hatters, Tony Thorpe netted twice within 15 minutes to put Luton 3-1 ahead after Matthew Spring’s effort from the edge of the box right on half-time had cancelled out Kevin Betsy’s strike for The Tykes within the first minute.

However, Barnsley set up a tense final 5 minutes for the Hatters when striker Bruce Dyer netted a penalty after Alan Neilson had committed a foul, Dyer sending Mark Ovendale, who had replaced Steve Robinson following Emberson’s dismissal, the wrong way.

A tremendous result for the Hatters, which keeps Joe Kinnear’s side in the play-off frame and looking for a second successive promotion campaign.
