Here are some facts that you might not have known about Luton Town FC: - The Kenilworth Road pitch measures 110yd x 72yd. When Joe Payne scored a record ten goals in the historical match against Bristol Rovers on April 13th 1936, his name didn't appear on the match programme. He was a late replacement for Scottish international Billy Boyd, the only change on either team. After Joe Payne's 10-goal achievement against Bristol Rovers watched by a crowd of 13,962, the attendance increased to 23,142 for the next home game v Coventry City when Payne scored again in a 1-1 draw. Luton's first game at Kenilworth Road in 1905 was known as the "Green Game", because they played Plymouth Argyle who wore green, the referee was a Mr. Green and the game was started by a local brewer called Green. The club was formed by an amalgamation of two leading local clubs - Wanderers and Excelsior. TV presenter Nick Owen has a bar named after him in the main stand at Kenilworth Road. The Hatters previous grounds were: 1885, Excelsior, Dallow Lane; 1897, Dunstable Road. Luton Town have actually had a Footballer of the Year - in the 1958/59 campaign, Sid Owen picked up the Footballer of the Year award.
