The World War trips aim to provide interesting and varied tours in France or Belgium. These are some of the few areas on this small Planet that if it is drizzling with rain or misty then the atmosphere is amazing. The Ypres area now is more like it was in 1914 before the bombardment.

Just a line to thank you for a most enjoyable weekend trip to the battlefields, full of memorable experiences.Your very wide knowledge of the battlefields, cemeteries and monuments and of the roads, lanes and villages that cover the area helped greatly in my understanding of the background.

Dear Charles
We would like to thank you very much for to have made it possible for us to join you on this memorable journey.Needless to say how deeply we were moved by your friendship and sympathy you and all the members of the group apparently felt towards us,when we were standing by the side of our fathers grave.
We did appreciate your perfect organizing the journey, the splendid hotel we stayed and dined at.From experience we know how difficult it is to make the necessary preparations for a tour like this without failing to remember even the slightest detail.
We especially admired the knowledge you showed of what happened in the course of the battle on the Somme and your ability to even in fog und (sic) poor weather take us to places worth seeing.we know that all this involves a great deal of research and experience as a guide to the battlefields where the youth of so many countries let alone of your country fought and lost their lives and the multitude of cemeteries where they lie buried, all of them dearly loved and sadly missed by their families......................................
...........Please convey our regards and best wishes to the members of the group if and when you speak to them. It was a great experience to have made this visit to our fathers grave with you, the British.

Dear Charles,Many thanks indeed for coming to talk to us on Wednesday.I believe they were enthralled with your subject(I have not heard them so quiet for a long time).I will be in touch with you ....for a possible return visit.

1st W. Beaver Pack,( from their web site)
As Remembrance Day approached in 2003 the Beavers and Viking cub pack held a joint meeting. The main activity of the evening was a talk given by Charles from "Past To Present Historic Tours Ltd".

The boys were spellbound as he explained to them about The Battle Of The Somme and other interesting facts about WW1. He brought it alive with stories about The Red Baron and artefacts such as English and German hats, rifles, hand grenades and a rare German egg grenade.

He spoke about the famous poem about the poppies in Flanders field written by a soldier at another soldiers grave. The poem went on to be printed in an English newspaper and went on to become the emblem of remembrance.
A fantastic evening!
At the next meeting the Beavers made and sent letters and cards to Charles to say thank you for his knowledge and enthusiasm.

THANK YOU FOR READING THIS AND LOOKING FORWARD TO MEETING YOU ON OUR TRIPS-CHARLES HASKELL,PORTSMOUTH,ENGLAND
(All UK tours are guided as well.)
