Steam Ploughing Engines
These were scenes taken recently at this year's Festival of the Plough in September, - steam ploughing using a double engine system, one on each headland, with each engine alternately drawing the plough across the field. Each engine has a winding drum, which in turn pulls the plough across the field.

At the upper headland pulling the plough was this Fowler Type AA6 Steam Engine.

This was originally sold new to Lord Rayleigh's Estate in Essex and had worked there during the First World War.

At the lower headland was a Fowler Type BB Steam Engine, originally used by Wards of Carrington.

The plough was drawn across the field quite quickly - it looked very difficult to control the direction it was travelling - the furrows looking anything but straight.

 Heading back down the field.
