(Doncaster had its own engine plant up to this point). Standard transmissions were available with 8 forward and 4 reverse gears plus torque amplifier option. There followed in 1973 the 68hp 674 model and also the 474 and 475 tractors. Transmissions were also shipped to Louisville, Kentucky for final assembly for the U.S. market but in later years were shipped as finished tractors to North America. 74 Series transmissions were also supplied to Komatsu, Volvo and to Manitou in France who used it as the basis of their site handler. The transmission was also used by IH as a basis for its own industrial tractors and loader/backhoes. |
||
| Manufacture of the 74 series continued towards the end of the 70's when it was updated to become the 84 series and included restyling of the hood and grille shown at right. The XL cab was introduced in 1981. Four wheel drive using a side mounted transfer box was also introduced in 1981. The range remained in production after the point in 1984 when the merger with Case took place and continued as the basis of tractor production at Doncaster till nearly the end of the 90's. |

The B414 was launched in 1961 and built up to 1966. This incorporated the many of the features of the earlier B250 and B275 tractors but had a 40hp engine. This one looks a bit battered but still working hard. |

At the same time as Doncaster launched the 74 Series, Bradford launched the International 354 and 444 tractors, which replaced the 276 and 434 tractors. With 38 and 45hp engines respectively it was available in Cab, Non Cab and Safety Frame versions. |

The Bradford tractors were a very successful range and are still such a popular little tractor around the world. The transmission was also the basis of the International B2275 and B3434 industrial loaders and like the 74 series was supplied to Manitou for use in their site handlers. The transmission itself has continued to be manufactured. The Mahindra Company of India produce a tractor range which are assembled in Texas. They were originally built under licence from International Harvester back in the 60's and are still closely based on the B414. |
