Son of Charlie & Amelia Iredale, of Wharfe Banks, Tadcaster, Yorkshire. Company Serjeant Major 1588, "A" Company, 1st/5th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment, who died on Tuesday 29th August 1916, aged 19. CWGC site does not list DCM but headstone in Connaught Cemetary, Thiepval includes it in inscription. Edward ("Eddie") is mentioned in Lynn Macdonald's book "Somme", as being killed by a shell. I would like to know why he was awarded both medals, and any other information welcomed.
