September 1980 On 30 August 1980 another round of cut-backs slashed weekend evening shows and shortened the breakfast show. To save transmission costs, the overnight relay of Radio 2 was also stopped. In a short-lived experiment, Simon Bates presented two separate Golden Hour shows on weekdays:
