EKG’s 30th Annual General Meeting was held on Sunday 16th March, once again at Eva and Carol’s museum in Kelvedon. Proceedings started with a traditional buffet lunch. The weather seemed to have kept a number of members away, although by the time we had got down to the “serious business” most seats were taken. Chairman (Colin Kill): Opened the meeting and welcomed all those attending. Apologies for absence had been received from Bob Tokely. Colin then recounted another year for the club and remarking particularly on two workshops; one at Newbury Park Primary School and the second for scouts at Skreens Park where over 190 kites were made, which was a new EKG record!
Secretary (Peter Jones): Informed the group that the 2008 summer programme had been drawn up and commented on future highlights including Layer Marney Tower Kite festival, Ashdon Kite Festival, Essex Hot Air Balloon Kite Festival (near Chelmsford), the Wick Kite festival and Blackheath Kite festival. It was agreed to have 1st June as a meeting at Perrywood Nurseries and also list the Ashdon Kite Festival for the same day, so members could choose which to attend. Any suggestions for new flying sites and/or pictures to update the EKG website were also welcomed.
Treasurer (Maurice Tooke): commented on a marginal increase in balance in the bank from £1843.88 (year beginning) to £1879.47 year ending. Total receipts from subscriptions and donations were £290 and income from kite workshops totalled £85.51. The largest expenditure was still postage, printing and admin expenses (mainly for the magazine) costing £194.47, however savings on postage costs had been made by distributing the magazine at meetings. It was felt that the membership fee should stay at £5.
Acting Membership Secretary (Vernon Read on behalf of Bob Tokley): reported that Bob has now taken on the role as membership secretary so that Vernon could concentrate on his role as newsletter editor. EKG bank account details were going to be amended to reflect this change. Total numbers of paid up club members was down this year from 58 to 57, despite one new member joining the club. There was a vote of thanks to Vernon for his work as Membership Secretary.
Election of Officers: A motion to re-elect all officers to their existing posts was purposed and a show of hands showed full agreement by those present (so you can look forward to another thrilling account of the AGM by me next year!).
AOB: Vernon also reported that he had 6 free passes, for the Rougham Kite Festival and that this year’s event would be celebrating “Cody Kites.”
Colin thanked Carol and Eva for their hospitality and closed official proceedings.
A raffle was then held in which I think everyone probably won something. After which Norman Cotterell displayed and gave an interesting talk about his incredibly detailed (with some extremely small screws!) and fully functioning model train!
