The blood tests revealed Eddie's POTASSIUM LEVELS WERE OFF THE SCALES AND SODIUM LEVELS LOW and Addisons disease was confirmed. By the time the vet got to Eddie, he had already passed. He probably went into Addisonian Crises, WHICH WAS EXACERBATED BY THE SEDATION. Since this terrible day I have trawled the internet to find out more about this condition as it is not mentioned in our many dog & poodle books. Had it been, we would have picked up on this condition earlier. We have also found that vets are often not usually picking up on the symptoms as they wax and wane. Delay in diagnosing can be only too tragic. I MUST ADD AT THIS POINT THAT ADDISONS ONCE DIAGNOSED IS VERY TREATABLE, WITH MEDICATION PRESCRIBED BY YOUR VET. I MUST ALSO ADD THAT YOUNG STANDARD POODLES, MALE OR FEMALE ARE PREDISPOSED TO THIS CONDITION.PLEASE MAKE YOUR VET AWARE OF THIS IF YOU HAVE A STANDARD POODLE OR ONE OF THE OTHER BREEDS LISTED ON THE SYMPTOMS PAGE. If this site has ben helpful please e-mail me on: ollieddie@wendymut.fsnet.co.uk If you have a dog with Addisons or Autoimmune problems the following site may be helpful http://k9addisons.com Or you can e-mail Penel on the following e-mail address: CIMDAsupport-owner@yahoogroups.com
