The Edinburgh Theravada Buddhist Group
The Group exists to encourage its members' deeper investigation of the practice of meditation within an atmosphere of group support. We actively support the monastic community at Harnham Buddhist Monastery, as they support us through their teaching and their inspiration. We meet weekly on Thursdays at 7.30 pm at the Eric Lidell Centre, 15 Morningside Road, Edinburgh, EH10 4DP. The Group's expenses, the transportation costs for a teacher, the room rental etc. are paid for by free will offerings made by its members and visitors
The Calendar
| 27th October Sunday | Kathina at Harnham Buddhist Monastery, at which lay people offer the kathina robe as part of a general alms-giving ceremony. Many senior monks and nuns from other monasteries within the Forest Sangha tradition will be present. A Buddhist "thanksgiving" for the whole Family. We leave Edinburgh around 8 am to arrive in time. Bring food to share as well as whatever offerings to the monks you wish to give to see them through the winter. |
| 28th November Thursday | A monk from Harnham will offer teaching at 7.30 pm at the Eric lidell Centre. This is the last time the Group is visited before the monastic retreat. |
| 29th November Friday | The meal is offered to our visiting teacher at 10.30 am at a member's home, the location will be announced on Thursday evening, or phone Myint Su. Bring food to offer and share. |
| 22nd December Sunday | The annual Christmas Winter Solstice party! For family and friends as well as meditators.....4-6.30 pm at Bryony Smith's home. Bring festive food to share. |
| 26th December Thursday | Boxing day - no Group meeting. |
