Dear AllAs we near the end of what turned out to be a warm and dry summer in which the Edinburgh area became the worldwide focus for a few days we can look forward to new school term with enthusiasm. With this in mind members of Lothian and Borders Dyslexia Association (LABDA) can look forward to a bright and challenging future.
Now the merger of Dyslexia In Scotland and the DSTrust is complete the council of management. It was decided that all branches should have a more uniformed name by agreeing to this it was decided at our last AGM it was agreed that Lothian and Borders Dyslexia Association (LABDA) would become Dyslexia Scotland South East (DSSE).
Dyslexia Scotland South East (DSSE) will carry on the same as before and we will adopt the new constitution supplied by Dyslexia Scotland at our AGM on the 14th of September 2005.
Dyslexia Scotland South East (DSSE) will still cover the same area as LABDA i.e. Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian, West Lothian and the Borders. These changes as such will have no real effect on the membership, but hopefully the group will be easier to find when someone needs help or support. As you read this the new Dyslexia Scotland South East (DSSE) website will be up and running.
The LABDA/DSSE committee and I have organised hopefully an interesting group of speakers for the forth-coming year, and I hope you can give them your full support.
Unfortunately due to my accident and then change of employment I have not been able to be as active as I would have liked to have been, this has affected the Adult support group and as I write this I feel we need to look at restarting this group completely and would welcome any volunteers to take on this task.
Another major impact on Dyslexia Scotland South East (DSSE) will be that both Sheena Teague and myself are due to step down from our posts as Chairperson and secretary respectively. Sheena has now been on the LABDA/DSSE committee for over seven years and I would like to thank her for all her work and support and as Chairperson for the last three years I don’t know what I would have done with out her.
I am asking you all as members of Dyslexia Scotland South East (DSSE) if any of you have the time to spare to become a member of a new committee which will be formed on the 14th of September. We need 3 new members due to retirements; please can you speak to Sheena or myself if you are able to help out.
LABDA/DSSE members continue to sit on various committees throughout the Lothian and Borders and also have spoken to other groups interested in dyslexia. We have continued our monthly meetings at Drummond High School and I would like to thank the staff of the school for their help.
Finally I would like to thank George Rielly for his on going work as Treasurer of LABDA/DSSE. I would also like to say a special thank you to Sheena Teague for her support as secretary, and the rest of the committee for the work they have put into LABDA/DSSE over the last year. Once again any new committee members would be more than welcome.
