The end of an era at Baddesley ended for me in 1989.I will never forget the many memories of my times at the pit,of all the many mates and friends i made whilst i was there, some did'nt make it to see it close, mining is not without it's darkside though ,tales of things happening, and of ghostly going's on Baddesley had it's own spectre which was called (the honk), but thankfully i never seen him!!So in came the demolition men filled in the shaft's . I started at Baddesley in 1969 ,done my training at Birch Coppice Colliery Traning Center. Then i worked as a general mine worker for a while ,then into roadheading and finally a deputy. I enjoyed my time at the N.C.B and all the laugh's and hard work that went with the job..The photo below is of me doing a charity walk for paraplegic miner's, i had just left school. All that is left to say is ,they were happy days the memories will always be there.
