Baddesley had 3 shafts, No1+2 were the upcast shafts(8ft dia)each and the new No3 about 16ft dia. No1+2 were the original shafts used for coalturning till the new shaft was sunk. Then coal was drawn up the new shaft and the old shafts No1+2 were made into manriding only. Whilst No3 shaft was used for coal and manriding ,2cages 18 men on each deck. No3 shaft was deeper than 1+2, as the mine working's got further out the deeper the seams were, so it was deepened to make a level loco road so as to get more coal out easier than pulling cars of coal up inclined ropeway's.(photo of shaft signals)&(the top deck)
