View of derelict sidings at Atherstone

The ungated level crossing at the A5 (Atherstone)

The Paddy Line

The paddy line ran from the mine on a steep incline down to the trent valley railway sidings at atherstone. Full train's had the locomotive in front and empty train's had the locomotive behind pushing them up to the pit ,to stop any occurance of runaway trucks. My first job at baddesley was checking that the railway was in good condition, and that all the wooden block's that kept the rails tight werein place. And most of the time you got a ride back up if you were lucky!. As the photo's show there is not much left now although it is still possible to walk the paddy line for about 1mile as it has been made a public footpath..
