H. SCOTTER BORN ????

Trimmer H. SCOTTER was aboard the H.M.S. RALCO in the Royal Navel Reserve when he lost his life on the 2/10/1918. He is buried in the Murmansk New British Cemetery in Russia. As of today 15/1/2001 we still do not know who his family were or where he came from. The best guess
is HENRY SCOTTER born in Scarborough in 1889. DO YOU KNOW OF HIM ? WILLIAM SCOTTER BORN 1828

Private WILLIAM SCOTTER the son of JOSEPH & MARY SCOTTER from Norwich
Norfolk,England served with the 61st Foot Regiment. This Regiment was in India from
1845 to 1860. WILLIAM took part in the putting down of the Indian Mutiny. On the 31st of
May 1857 WILLIAM was listed as sick. On the 30th June 1857 WILLIAM was listed at the
Garrison of Ferozepore. On the 31st July he was listed as being en route to join , this
must have meant he was on the way to join the battle. The last mention of WILLIAM was
when he died on the 25th August 1857. WILLIAM received a campaign medal, details as
follows. The 61st Foot in India, Indian Mutiny ect. 1857 WILLIAM SCOTTER 61st
Foot Regiment medal no 826 engaged in the capture of Delhi. Investigation into
WILLIAMS death appears to show that he did not die in action but died of Cholera,
there was a big outbreak there at the time. In his early years his surname was SCOTTOW

G. SCOTTER BORN ????

Private G. SCOTTER was serving with the 36th. Company Machine Gun Corps ( Infantry) when he was killed on the 8/10/1916. The battle of the SOMME in France began on the 1/7/1916 and it was in this battle that G. SCOTTER was killed in the October. He is remembered with honour on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL in France. We still do not know who his family were or where he came from. He could well be the brother of H. SCOTTER above, there was a GEORGE SCOTTER
born in Scarborough in 1885 but we do not now for certain. DO YOU KNOW OF HIM ?

In volume 6 of the Muster Books
for the years 1569 to 1577 page 50 for the area known as South Erpingham Norfolk England the following entries are found . Laborers or Pyons, EDD SKOTTOWE, JOHN SKOTTOWE - a bowe with a shefe one stele cap or skull - I take this to mean that John had a bow and steel scull cap. Also in Tyrrington Norfolk PETER SCOTTER was also on the Muster. They must have been labourer,s but i can not find out what Pyons were. The Muster Book for 1522 show,s entries for the Aylsham District in Norfolk England
at a place called Stratton Strawless. JOHN SKOTTOW, WILLIAM SKOTTOW, and JOHN SKOTTOW the younger were all Billmen. In the same district at Little Barningham JOHN SKOTTE was also a Billman. (photo of Billman below) As of today 2002 there is strong evidence to suggest that we were once all one family. There are places where the Skottowe name changed to Skottow and Scottow we were also in the same villages in Norfolk back in the1500,s . The name SCOTTOW is very hard to find before 1550 and Scotter has not been found yet.
