JOHN WILLIAM SCOTT0W BORN 1888
Gunner JOHN SCOTTOW the son of JOHN & ELIZABETH SCOTTOW who lived in Norwich Norfolk, England was by trade a tailor. He served with 355th Siege Bty, Royal Garrison Artillery. The terrible battle of the Somme claimed the life of JOHN he died of wounds on the 20/8/1918. He is buried in a small cemetery in Dahours, France. A very moving letter was sent to his wife and reads as follows. France 21st August. Dear Mrs Scottow, I am very sorry to tell you of the death of your husband Gnr J. W. SCOTTOW. He was brought in here badly wounded on the 20th August and in spite of every care died the same day. He was hardly if ever conscious, I wish he had been for I have lived and worked in Norwich and would much like to have had some talk with him. It may comfort you to know that now, lifes warfare over, his body rests in a quiet little cemetery far from the line. His grave is already marked with a white cross and is well cared for. May God grant you comfort in your sorrow and to him eternal rest until the day breaks and you meet again. Yours truly G.A.B.Boycott C.E.Chaplain . TOM OSCAR SCOTTOW BORN 1911

TOM SCOTTOW deserves a mention in this section because he was an AIR RAID WARDEN in London during the 2nd World War. Born in 1911 in Hackney London England the son of TOM and CHARLOTTE SCOTTOW . He died in November 1994 .

DENNIS WILLIAM SCOTTER BORN 1919

Private DENNIS SCOTTER was the son of SAMUEL & ELLEN SCOTTER. He was born in Norwich Norfolk England in 1919. Dennis moved from Norwich to Kendal in Cumbria from were he joined the army. By choice or coincidence he joined the 6th Bat. Royal Norfolks. DENNIS was another family member who was captured at the fall of Singapour and he to spent three and a half years in Changi Jail. Sometime after the war Dennis moved back to Norwich he died there in 1993

WILLIAM GOODWIN SCOTTER BORN 1846

WILLIAM SCOTTER was born in Wickmere Norfolk England in 1846. He was the son of EDWARD & HANNAH SCOTTER. The family left England during the 1850,s for New Zealand.
WILLIAM served with the 3rd Company Parnell Rifles and took part in the Waikato War. He died in Aukland N/Zealand in 1908 a world away from Norfolk.
