DARKFELL IRISH WOLFHOUNDS

NEWS – Message from Darkfell

Liz and Jeff would like to say thank you to everyone who has taken home one of our Darkfell puppies over the years since we started. We've had a lot of fun with them and we know all of you have too. We've enjoyed meeting you all and becoming friends.

We would also like to say a big thank you to everyone who has written, phoned or e-mailed with enquiries and if we didn’t manage to get back to you all our sincere apologies, but it sometimes gets a bit hectic here.

We won't be having any more puppies at Darkfell for the next year or two, as our old guys have now retired and our youngsters have got some serious fun to be getting on with, but we are still here and love to hear from you with news, enquiries and photos.

Lastly thanks to everyone who has e-mailed photos of the puppies, we LOVE them. We will keep the site updated with news and new pictures and we hope soon to include a short video of our hounds playing in the sea (waiting for the weather to warm up a bit first). Bye for now

LOVE

Liz,  Jeff and the hounds

Hello and welcome to the website devoted to my hounds

My name is Elizabeth (LIZ) Tweedie and I own the Kennel Club UK registered affix DARKFELL

Liz and Buddy

You will find no kennels at Darkfell. ALL our hounds live with us as part of the family. Our puppies are loved and cherished from the day they are born and given nothing but the best and all the love and contact this breed SO needs.

We are fortunate to live on a beautiful coast where our hounds can run free in safety every day, an ESSENTIAL part of life for an adult hound.

We share our home with the hounds and a few other canine friends, Max and Annie two small terriers and Abbie a long-haired dachshund; and a few felines: Orange, Nell and Zebedee. We also own a shire horse named Dolly who lives on a nearby farm.

Oh! I almost forgot there are also two more humans, Jeff my partner, without whom I would not be able to devote enough of my time to my pets, and his mum June who has also been a great help when the puppies were very small.

About Darkfell

I have owned Irish wolfhounds since 1996 when I brought my sweet natured Kadie into my home. She immediately settled in and we enjoyed trips to puppy classes and then to show classes. I enjoyed showing Kadie and was proud of her when she achieved qualification for Crufts; a magnificent show.

Lula, Kadie and Luke

I then brought my big and handsome Luke, the gentle giant, into the fold in 1997 and who was also socialized at an early age. He had a superb temperament and was a very loyal dog. He also qualified for Crufts. I was thrilled when Luke and Kadie had their first litter in 1999.

Lula was the special girl that I kept from this litter.

Lula

Darkfell Luan is a much loved family pet as well as a successful show dog. She won best puppy in breed at Manchester championship show and has won numerous B.O.B and firsts at open shows. I was very proud and happy when she also became a Crufts entrant.

Since that time Lula has been mated and she had 10 puppies in 2001. The sire was Monty’s Magic, (Gelert) who is from 100% Irish bloodlines, he is a fine big dog with a fabulous temperament, and he also lives in Wales.

Her daughter Mina was my favourite from this litter and she has also done well in shows and qualified for Crufts last year, 2003. I hope to have more success with her in 2004.

MINA

Buddy her brother has also become part of the family, sadly he suffered a reaction to vaccine when he was a puppy, but this does not stop him being as much loved as all the other hounds. He is very handsome and has a very friendly personality too.

In January 2004 Lula and Gelert were mated once again. Lula had 8 puppies, born on the 11th of January 2004, 2 dogs and 6 bitches. Darkfell Grace from this litter was kept by Darkfell.

Darkfell Grace

In August 2004 MINA was mated with Admiral of Nutstown at Nightwing and in October 2004 Mina gave birth to 11 puppies, 6 dogs and 5 bitches.

Darkfell Puppies

2 puppies from Lula's 2004 litter

I only have carefully planned litters and therefore do not bring many Darkfell puppies into the world. I mainly only breed my dogs when I desire a new puppy for myself, most often to replace a well loved pet.

Our puppies will only be sold to homes where they will receive the standard of care and attention to which they are accustomed. In return you will have a puppy that has had the best start in life, who has been correctly fed, wormed and vaccinated, who will be gentle, loyal and loving.

We will always be available for help and advice as long as you need it.

If you are considering buying a wolfhound puppy please contact me and I will then be able to advise you on the current situation at Darkfell.

Also please read my puppy care guide and consult other relevant wolfhound literature before making a final decision about bringing an Irish wolfhound into your home. I am an avid believer in the phrase “A dog is for life”

I also believe that there can be few companions as good and as loyal as the Irish wolfhound and all the care and effort needed to keep a happy and healthy dog is well worth it.
