More About the Walks
Foreigners, when picturing a typical English scene, very probably bring to mind the Cotswolds as it encompasses all that can be thought of as England. The beautiful Cotswold landscape is crisscrossed by numerous paths and bridle ways, making it a wonderful area to explore on foot. However, visitors to these shores may be unfamiliar with rules of access or even where the best walking is and this is where Baker's Cotswold Walks comes in. Each walk is tailored to clients' requests or interests and much time is spent researching and personalising the walks to suit. These are not the set walks of larger companies and are kept very much on an individual level. A day's walking would probably cover in the region of 10 to 12 miles at a fairly leisurely pace, taking about 6 to 7 hours to complete. The walks are generally away from the busy tourist areas and it is common not to meet many other walkers at all during the day. They are not difficult but may include some gentle uphill work in places. Ample time is allowed to sit and stare!
A reasonable level of fitness is required and the ability to climb over stiles. (These are stock proof entrances to fields that involve clambering up one or two wooden steps, over the top and back down again.) As many footpaths can be muddy, even in the height of summer, correct footwear is very important. Trainers (sports shoes) are not suitable as the tread on the soles quickly fills up giving a flat surface with no grip and the likely hood of slips and falls. Walking boots or stout shoes with good ankle support are ideal. A day sack with warm clothing/ wet weather gear is a good idea as the conditions can be very changeable. Diane brings refreshments for short breaks and lunch will be normally taken at a pub en-route. Diane is also an ex-nurse and carries a full first aid kit. Another adult will accompany groups in case of emergency. Mobile phones are carried.
