Utica a Remsen

Cawsom ein croesawu yn gynnes iawn i Utica gan aelodau o Gymdeithas Gymraeg y "Southern Tier". Yn eu mysg roedd Robert (Bob) Jones (gweler dde) o New Hartford. Un â'i wreiddiau yn nwfn yn ardal Dolgellau yw Bob. Roedd y diweddar annwyl Capten Gwilym Lewis Jones (cyn-aelod o'r Côr) yn gefnder iddo.
We were given a wonderful welcome to Utica by members of the Welsh Society of the Southern Tier. Amongst them was Robert (Bob) Jones (see right) of New Hartford. Bob's roots lie deep in the Dolgellau area. The late Captain Gwilym Lewis Jones (a former member of the Choir) was a cousin of his.

Y bore Sadwrn wedi i ni gyrraedd Utica, aethpwyd â ni i ymweld â'r Capel Cerrig (gweler chwith uchod) yn nhref Remsen. Fel y cofnodir ar y plac sydd ar wal allanol y Capel (gweler dde uchod), fe'i adeiladwyd gan y "Trefnyddion Calfinaidd Cymreig" yn y flwyddyn 1831 ar gyfer "addoli'r Arglwydd". Y dyddiau hyn y mae'r Capel yn eiddo i gymdeithas hanes leol ac fe'i ddefnyddir yn achlysurol ar gyfer cyfarfodydd, priodasau ac astudiaeth. Wedi ymweld â'r capel aethom i weld mynwent gyfagos ble y gwelsom nifer helaeth o gerrig beddau â'r Gymraeg yn cael lle amlwg arnynt.
The Saturday morning following our arrival in Utica we were taken to visit the "Capel Cerrig" (Stone Chapel) in the town of Remsen. As the plaque on the outer wall of the chapel declares, the Chapel was built in 1831 by Welsh Calvinistic Methodists for the purpose of "worshipping the Lord". These days the chapel is owned by a local historical society and is opened occasionally for meetings, weddings and study purposes. After visiting the Chapel we visited a nearby cemetery where we saw many headstones on which the Welsh language was apparent.
