COPING is proud to
announce that our Patron is the well respected Anaesthetist and Pain
Management Consultant
Dr Adrian Searle MB
ChB FRCA
Executive Committee
members of COPING
Chair - Mr Mark Charity
Mark has been
instrumental in establishing the group and as such was elected
chairman of the steering committee. Despite suffering for many
years with a debilitating and painful condition, he is a
public-spirited member of the community and has been involved in
several voluntary groups over the years. He is also a member
of Derby County Football Club's Disabled Supporters Branch,
holding a season ticket for several years.

Secretary - Mrs Janet Owen
Janet
has given valuable service to the group since its inception and is a
pillar of strength to us all. Having retired from full time
employment, she describes herself as being 'far too busy for
hobbies, and it's enough work sorting us lot out'.
Treasurer - Mr Paul Hearne (CSS)
Until a combination
of accident and illness forced Paul to retire, he spent his
professional career within the field of Social Services, primarily
within the challenging and rewarding field of Child Care. He
is a keen singer/guitarist and is a committed Christian, holding the
post of Worship Leader at his local church. Despite being in
constant pain, Paul has a wicked sense of humour, and despite his
youthful good looks, would you believe it, he's 50!
Public Relations & Membership
Executive - Mrs Sandra Cunningham
Sandra's claim to
fame is that she was Brian Clough's Secretary at Derby County FC
during the glory years in the 70's. Sandra is now medically retired from her
chosen career as an administrator within the NHS, due to the adverse
effects of a severely debilitating 20 year
chronic back condition. She brings
to our team a number of practical skills and her lovely charm and bubbly
personality. Her hobbies include cookery and travel.
Webmaster - Mr Stephen R Wilson RMN DPSN
(Registered Mental Nurse -
Diploma In Professional Studies in Nursing)
This is me,
unfortunately my glittering acting career in Hollywood was
tragically cut short by a debilitating back condition!! In
reality I trained at Kingsway Hospital as a psychiatric nurse, and
after qualification I was employed in the Independent Sector as a
Senior Nurse Manager. I'm happily married to Marie, and have 2
wonderful daughters, Hayley (aged 10) and Abbie (3). Like Mark
I'm a season ticket holder with Derby County, and when well
enough I enjoy trying to play the saxophone.

Executive Committee Member - Mrs
Eileen Hogg
Eileen describes
herself as 'having been through the system' as a result of suffering
with chronic pain due to a back injury for over 40 years. Despite
a lifetime of pain and discomfort, she somehow found the resilience
to manage to work full time in the hosiery industry, rising to
be a Supervisor. She is now retired and describes her hobbies
now as being of a non-physical nature, such as knitting, sewing and
crosswords.
