Now regarded as a major contributor to the arts in the
West of Scotland, the City of Glasgow Chorus performs regularly with the three
major Scottish symphony orchestras and also undertakes the occasional tour
abroad.
The Chorus, proud of its amateur status, gives around ten
concerts each season, mainly in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, and offers a
variety of music unavailable to any other choir. It gives concerts with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the
Orchestra of Scottish Opera, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the City
of Glasgow Symphony Orchestra, presenting great choral works, opera galas,
Christmas music both traditional and modern, music from Broadway and West End
shows and from time-to-time highly demanding choral works which very few
organisations are likely to tackle.
We are looking for more singers to join the ranks, both experienced and less experienced. Those experienced voices will find our concert and rehearsal schedules not over demanding. Less experienced voices will be trained in choral technique at our weekly rehearsals.
The Chorus rehearses in central Glasgow each Tuesday night from 7:30pm to 9:45pm. Annual subscription is currently £60 per year (discounts available for students), which can be split into two equal half-season subscriptions.
All new members will find the chorus friendly, the rehearsals hard work but great fun, and the sheer variety of concert exciting and stimulating. In addition, you will have the chance to share in the great moments that happen from time-to-time. Moments like the occasion the Chorus gave the first performance in Glasgow for over 16 years of Mahler’s Eighth Symphony – The Symphony of a Thousand, and the time we invited top British recording soprano Lesley Garrett to join us for a performance of Brahms’ German Requiem. Then there were the overseas tours, singing in the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, making four CD recordings to date and the opportunity to sing with Jose Carreras
