About Us

The Coach and Horses is the only pub in Hemingby, providing the locals and visitors with a good range of real ales and good quality, fairly priced bar meals in a traditional and picturesque setting.
Location

Hemingby is a quiet village approximately three and a half miles outside Horncastle on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Hemingby is just off the A158 approximately halfway between Lincoln and Skegness, and is also very handy for Cadwell Park racing circuit.

YOUR HOSTS

Originally from Rotherham, Keith and Deborah Stride, the licensees, together with their two sons, Adam and Oliver, came to The Coach and Horses in January 1993 after running a hotel in Todmorden, Lancashire for the provious five years. Keith is a member of CAMRA and takes pride in providing a good selection of real ales. The pub won the Pub of the Season award from the Lincoln branch of CAMRA in Summer 1997 and has been listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide from 1998 onwards. We were delighted to be named by Lincoln branch of CAMRA as their Pub of the Year 2008. Deborah has introduced a comprehensive range of bar meals from sandwiches to steaks, many dishes home-made, including selections for vegetarians and children. All dishes are very conpetitively priced, with main courses starting at only £2.50. The pub has received a Gold Citation from Lincolnshire Life magazine for three years running in the best pub meal section of their Taste of Excellence competition, and in 2004/2005 was a runner up in the Best Pub Restaurant section. We are now taking part in the Tastes of Lincolnshire promotion and have many items of local produce on the menu. We were very pleased to be a runner up in the 2005 Tastes of Lincolnshire Awards, public house section.

FACILITIES

Although only a very small building, The Coach and Horses provides comfortable surroundings in which to eat, drink and socialise. It is a traditional village pub with an open fire in winter, low beams (watch your head!) and brasses and plates for decoration. There is a pool table and dart board, and dominoes are very popular amongst the locals. The pub has teams in the local leagues for all the above and also a quiz team. Quiz nights open to all are held on occasion. A recent addition to the facilities is the installation of a widescreen TV so you can now watch any important football matches or other special events whilst enjoying a drink. We also now have a computer with internet access for use by the customers. Outside there is a pleasant beer garden with plenty of seating and play equipment for the children. The grounds of the pub include a two-acre field which stretches down to the banks of the River Bain - handy for keen fishermen. The field is available for camping and caravanning - no need to drive home after testing the real ales!

PAYMENT FACILITIES

We have joined the electronic age at last and are now able to take payments by credit and debit cards. The terminal also does mobile phone e-top-ups, so there is no need to make the journey into Horncastle if your phone runs out of credit. Top up while you have a pint or a meal!
