Gavin Reid’s book, To Canterbury with Love (Kingsway, Eastbourne, 2002) is a friendly but critical commentary on the activities of the Church of England since 1945. He was Bishop of Maidstone from 1992 to 2000. He has intimate knowledge of how and why we failed to achieve in evangelism among adults and children. An easily read book! Penny Frank has been a leader of children for over forty years. After spending many years as a primary school teacher, she joined the Church Pastoral Aid Society and is now director of its Children’s Evangelism Initiative. Her book, Every Child - A Chance to Choose (CPAS, Kingsway, Eastbourne, 2002) is commended by James Jones, Bishop of Liverpool in its Foreword.

St Paul’s Blackbrook: a view of this St Helens church’s sanctuary.
It is good to know that 86% of the
population of
St Helens say they are Christians.
According to the 2001 Census, the highest % in any place in England!

‘The number of baptized Anglicans still alive will, of course, continue to drop steadily for many years into the future in response to the reduction in the number of baptisms.’ According to Bob Jackson in Hope for the Church (Church House Publishing, London, 2002).
