My name is John Bronnert. I was ordained at Michaelmas,1968 after three years’ study at Tyndale Hall in Bristol. I was at that time a Chartered Accountant in the city. My wife and two children moved with me to Chester for a three year curacy. Then I was involved in ‘planting a new church’ in St Helens from 1971 to 1984. In 1984 I obtained an M.A.(Theol) for The Value of Church Growth Thinking in Contemporary Britain. Afterwards until Michaelmas 1998 I was vicar of St John’s Weston, Runcorn in the diocese of Chester. Then I retired with a Ph.D about Baptismal Policies and the Growth of the Church of England.

Below is what I am arguing for!

New welcoming Scheme proposed for the growth of the Church of England

1. Thanksgiving Service offered to every child born or living in the parish.

2. Baptism offered to every child aged four or five years old as he or she enters primary school.

3. Anointing with olive oil (chrism), usually on the occasion of baptism instead of confirmation.

4. Admission to Holy Communion immediately after anointing with chrism.

5. Catechumenal process, beginning when a child is three years of age and continuing until he or she is aged sixteen, using a staged modular teaching and fellowship.

6. Confirmation by the bishop for those aged sixteen years or over to mark admission to adult responsibility.
