The former Castleford Tigers and Great Britain skipper has replaced Alan Hardy at the National Conference League Premier Division outfit. Crooks, who has coached at Northern Ford Premiership sides Keighley Cougars and York Wasps, is employed by the RFL, as co-ordinator for the Wakefield Service Area, but was keen to maintain a hands-on approach in the game. "It's a great opportunity for me. Although I'm working for the Rugby League full-time, I still want to keep my coaching credentials up. As a coach you are learning all the time and I'm grateful to the club for giving me this chance." Crooks' first task is to assess the strength of Lock Lane's playing staff before deciding if and when to recruit fresh blood. And he is confident of raising the Lane's profile in the amateur game. "A club as big as Lock Lane needs to be competing with the West Hulls and the Oulton Raiders - the surprise package of this season's competition."
