19 July 2005. Field Trip around the Newquay area led by Frank Kneebone

The evening started at the Boating Lake where Frank gave us a history of this area and information on the River Gannel. We then moved on to Mount Wise area of Newquay.

Although there is very little visual evidence of mining in Newquay Frank was able to point out some of the older buildings and their uses. The row of cottages where lived in by the miners of the district some 100 years ago, wonder what they would make of the TV aerials, probably something to keep away the gull's

A port hole in the side of the cliff behind the Cosy Nook Theatre leading into the mines of the Mount Wise area. Mines of the Newquay area were mainly Silver and Lead mines

Coastal erosion in the Whipsiderry area has exposed some of the old tunnelling.

Interesting rock structure can be seen at Whipsiderry, here we can see the fold in the rock.
