 Constitution for Bridgwater Peace Group

1. Name:

The Association shall be called Bridgwater Peace Group.

From time to time the association shall also be referred to as:

Sedgemoor Peace Group (Bridgwater)

For example, where pursuing joint activities with our sister organisation Sedgemoor Peace Group (Axbridge)

In particular the Association will own a bank account in the name of:

Sedgemoor Peace Group

2. Aims and Objectives:

· Bridgwater Peace Group exists to

promote alternatives to war and conflict in our world, promote awareness of Peace Issues, to oppose war and the causes of war
allow members to support each other in our share belief in Peace
help educate and inform our community on Peace Issues
support Peace activism in the local community
represent members with various political or religious viewpoints, and members without them
3. Membership:

Membership shall be open to all persons wishing to support the aims and objectives of the organisation.
· Members are defined as individuals who have e-mail addresses on the membership mailing list of Bridgwater Peace Group.

4. General Assembly:

· All full members of Bridgwater Peace Group are members of the General Assembly and are subscribed to the membership mailing list.

5. Executive Committee:

· Bridgwater Peace Group Executive Committee is in no way separate from membership meetings, and each properly notified meeting of members shall be deemed an Executive Committee meeting. Decisions shall be taken on show of hands.

· The executive committee consists of the Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Co-signer, and any members of Bridgwater Peace Group present at a properly notified meeting.

The Committee will meet at least twelve times a year.
The responsibilities of the Committee include:
Management and development of the website and mailing lists.
Seeking and managing funds.
Representing the Association.
Planning and supporting the further development of Bridgwater Peace Group.
Ensuring that the aims and objectives are met.
Chairperson and Secretary volunteer from the membership present at the start of the meeting. The treasurer and co-signer are elected for a period of one year by the rest of the committee.
The chairperson shall be responsible for chairing meetings.
The secretary shall be responsible for ensuring the keeping minutes of meetings and their distribution.
The treasurer shall be responsible for keeping accounts. Any account held by the group will have as co-signatories, the co-signer and the treasurer. All financial transactions should be agreed in adavance by meeting minutes. Notwithstanding this, the executive committee should be informed of all financial transactions.
Sub-committees or working groups may be formed and empowered by meetings of the executive committee
6. General Meetings:

Annual general meetings shall be held within twelve months of each other; these shall be called by the chairperson who will give at least 21 days notice.
Business shall include:
Receipt of the annual report
Statement of accounts
Amendments to the constitution
7. Dissolution of the Association:

In the event of the Association’s dissolution any remaining assets shall be transferred (after payment to creditors) to an association with similar aims and objectives.
