Quaker Meeting House Friarn Street Bridgwater
Present: Phil (sec), Val, Dave, Bev, Chinks
Apologies: GlenWe observed a minute's silence in memory of Howard Andrews, who has died aged 101, he was the oldest surviving International Brigader having been a medical orderly in the Spanish Civil War. His funeral is 22/5 14.00 Wellington Rd Crematorium.
Matters arising
Phil will get some photo's of our banner printed for next meeting we can get postcards and bookmarks printed for sale, and will also talk to Purnells about print costs.
Dave had been to a Portuguese cultural event at the Engine Room. We might hire it for a film evening for £50, but would need to know if staff costs were extra. We need a volunteer to take this idea forward.
International Conscientious Objectors Day 15th May
Bev found this idea from Peace News.
We will have a meeting to remember Conscientious Objectors to War at Bridgwater King Square memorial. We will bring flowers, and appropriate readings.
Phil will invite the email list this night.
We will create a press release with a photo at the event for local press
Val will try to get a notice in the Arts Centre Tuesday
Festival Banners
Chinks has some fence space for banners to be shown at the Glastonbury festival. Offerso of banners are from Sedgemoor, Taunton are considering
We thought about displaying our banner. We are concerned about wind damage. We will look and decide when we meet Thursday. An alternative is to stitch the baner to a backing tarp.
Panels will be up Friday (20/6) through Thursday
Library Exhibition
We have outline permission to show an exhibition at Bridgwater Library of the creative force of the Peace Movement in Sedgemoor. This exhibition will include the SPG Peace Quilt, some of Jeff and Wendy's Subvertising posters, and some photo's from various events. We will also produce a leaflet about the exhibition and giving contact details for our groups.
Val will try to get a date from start August to coincide with the start of the school hols
Further info we need:
Can we hang the quilt on a wall
Are there free standing screens available for the pictures
and a table for leaflets
We would like to show our banner but its size probably makes this impractical and a poster sized picture will have to do instead
most arrangements had better get finalised in the next meeting
Funds
Phil will follow up the signatory change so that our account can have Dave as co-signatory and we can get funds moving.
Dave has had an offer from Dean Crago local DJ to host a music evening, possibly at the Newmarket. We hope this comes off for a Peace Group Benefit, Dave to follow up.
Next meeting we will agree the format for a mailshot call for donations to the Peace Group funds.
