on 2/11 from 17.00-18.00 maybe 15 of us gathered to rmember the civilians dead and each day dying in iraq. in turns we read the names of some 300 children of 18 and below killed by coallition forces. this in part to address the lack of record keeping by us forces of iraqi casualties. we joined a national event with readings in many towns. we struggled with the names, but it did not prevent a feeling of rightness to witness so much young life wrongfully lost. there were clusters of names ages and places as families and friends and homes were hit by shrapnel, bullets bombs and missiles. I was part way down a page of names when i realised they were all killed by a missile attack on al bassra. and remember too that perhaps 100,000 iraqis have died violently in this war, and by far the majority are non combatants. we remember them.

September 2004 Talk from Trish Goddard - her recent visit to Israel and Palestine. Trish spoke incredibly well, and supported her talk with great photo's and, well, wisdom. Her celebrity meetnigs with Mordecai Vanunu and Yasser Arafat were pretty fascinating too.

March 20 the Demo in Bridgwater leaflets expressing concerns about the justfication and outcomes of the War in Iraq one year on, local media coverage complemented natonal demos and comverage

March 13 2004 A Peace Studies day at Eastover Youth Centre saw five fine speakers and a lively audience learn about contemporary issues. What is local Peace activism like in Bridgwater, what is happening in Iraq today, how Zapatista's in Mexico are unwinding a non violent revolution, what would it take for Peace in our world, and the Global Arms Trade - a dirty business and the UK is a major player

24 Jan 2004 A Peace Justice and Asylum day at Eastover Youth Centre linked the themes of Peace and Asylum when two refugees from Eritrea movingly told us of their flight from torture to their struggle for justice in Britain against incredible asylum processes that leave people destitute.

November 2003, we held a White Poppy ceremony at the war memorial in Kings square. White poppies are symbols of peace, we laid a wreath inscribed:

FOR ALL THOSE - who have died or are dying in wars - who have died or are dying because resources that could have fed or housed them have been wasted on war and war preparations - who will die until we learn to live in peace. WHEN SHALL WE EVER LEARN?
