| Plans
to record a new CD were thwarted by the flood of 16th August 2004. Boscastle
was devastated and the Wellie was wrecked!
John and the other singers decided that nothing was going to stop them
singing there on a Wednesday night. Every week, without exception, they
gathered outside the building and sang. Throughout the winter they continued
inside the shell of the building. There was no electricity but the scrap
wood fires kept them cosy. and the regular and generous donations of beer
from Skinners’ Brewery!
John was one of the local builders who refurbished The Welly, incorporating
a minstrels’ gallery in the vertically extended bar! A new CD was
recorded live, in the gallery, on 31st Jan. Appropriately called “Rise
Again”, this CD re-forms the old “Damn Buskers” with
Ben Maughan on accordion, Martin Frith on fiddle, the lovely Cheryl and
Julie on vocals, (Morgie would be proud!). The band is enhanced with the
addition of Mike Silver on guitar and vocals, and Roger Nichols on harmonies. |
