Thank you for calling in at my web site. My name is Bob Jeffs and I specialise in pastel painting and sculpture. I have always been interested in art and I have attended evening classes over a number of years. These have usually been portrait or life classes as these are my main subjects. Since retiring from my employment as a computer system designer and programmer, I have attended classes in order to improve my drawing and most of the displayed pastel pencil images are class work. I have exhibited on several occasions and sold a number of paintings.

Methods.

I use pastel pencils for class work as these allow me to work on a small scale so that I can complete a painting in the time available. Although I have worked in other media, I feel more comfortable with pastels. I also work with pastels over an acrylic underpainting so that I do not have to take the background paper colour into account. I coat the acrylic painting with clear pastel primer and work over this with soft pastels and pastel pencils. This method allows me to achieve a very fine finish with precise detail.

In sculpture I work in plaster and in fired clay. I enjoy working in plaster as this is a beautiful - if messy - medium and this again can be worked to a very fine and precise finish. I finish my plaster casts with acrylic paint.
