Afghan War Rugs is a site about the collecting of a particular type and style of oriental rug, produced in Afghanistan and in the refugee camps of Pakistan and Iran, following the Russian Invasion Afghanistan in 1979. The decorative style shown on these rugs is one of war iconography, and reflects the world of the Afghan weavers during the Russian occupation of their country, which ceased in 1989.

Afghan War Rugs was first uploaded in early 2001. Since then there has been a steady increase of knowledge and interest shown in the subject, which in turn has attracted more collectors. Hence the revision of my original Afghan War Rugs site.

Afghan War Rugs is also an introduction to the subject and offers a general background to those interest, or curious in this aspect of ethnic weaving and art.

Afghan War Rugs. For those wishing to find out more about these rugs and oriental rugs in general go to the Sources or Links page. Here you will be able to find further details, information and opinions about the subject of Afghan War Rugs. The rugs and medals shown on this site are from the Gower Collection.
