WISTOW OUT OF SCHOOL HOURS CLUB (WOOSH CLUB)

1. Objectives

WOOSH Club aims to:

  • Provide high quality, affordable, accessible childcare for school aged children in the local community.
  • Provide a happy, stimulating and safe environment for the children to play and develop.
  • Provide equality of access and provision for all members of the community regardless of race, gender, age, disability or lifestyle.
  • Enable parents in the community with children of school age to have more choices about whether to work or train, secure in the knowledge that the children are being well-cared for.
  • Establish a partnership with parents and Wistow School to support and enhance the development of the children.
  • Become self-sustaining, through fees, and therefore become a sustainable part of the local infrastructure.

2. Management

A voluntary Management Committee operates WOOSH Club. Two members of the Management Committee have been allocated the task of line-managing staff employed to operate the Club. Two other members of the Management Committee have been allocated the task of liasing with parents and dealing with any complaints or problems.

The Management Committee is being supported by a Development Officer from the North Yorkshire Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership who provides advice for members in developing the Club and developing their management roles.

3. Premises

The premises used will be Wistow Jubilee Hall. The upper, smaller room will be used for the morning session and the larger, downstairs room for the afternoon session. An out-door play area is available adjacent to the Hall.

4. Number of places

WOOSH Club has been registered for 16 places in the first instance. The number of places available will be reviewed annually by the Management Committee with a view to extending capacity to meet demand.

5. Age Range and Opening Hours

The Club will provide childcare for children aged 4-14 years of age before and after school. The morning session will run from 7.30am to 9am and the afternoon session from 3.30pm until 6.15pm.

6. Catchment

The Club will in the main serve families with children attending Wistow C of E Parochial Primary School however the Club will be open to any child living in the local community. Children will be picked up from the Wistow School by a member of staff and walked to the Club (approx. 400m). Children attending after-school activities at Wistow School will also be picked up and walked to the Club. Arrangements can also be made for children attending Selby High School to be collected from the School bus.

7. Staffing

WOOSH Club is seeking to employ a suitably qualified co-ordinator to be responsible for the day to day running of the Club, and at least two further play workers. On-going training to staff will be made available. The Club will aim to maintain a workforce that is qualified or working towards NVQ Level 3 qualifications in Playwork.

8. Development

The Club will aim to develop good quality practice through registering in a recognised quality assurance scheme.

The Club will aim to develop a holiday provision.

The Club will review it’s policies and procedures on an annual basis to ensure that the Club is serving the needs of the local community and achieving its aims of providing affordable accessible and high quality childcare.
