Guidelines

You decide how much time you want to give!

All jobs are done on a rota basis and you would not normally be asked to spend more than ten hours every six months.

Editing the paper. This involves selecting items of news from the printed newspapers, cutting out the articles and pasting in a suitable order onto separate sheets for others to read onto cassette. This work takes place on Thursday mornings.

Recording the news/magazine. This involves spending about one hour per session using cassette tape recorders and CD player to record the news or magazine onto a master cassette. This task requires basic knowledge of using tape recorders. This work takes place on Wednesday or Thursday evenings

Reading the news. This involves spending about one hour per session, with two other readers, reading the local news from the edited editions of The Whitstable Times and The Whitstable Gazette. This requires only the ability to read the news in a clear and distinct manner and at such a speed that it is meaningful to our listeners. This work takes place on Thursday evenings.

Producing a magazine programme This task involves the preparation and production of a 45 minute magazine programme. Magazines are normally produced by a team of two people who are free to select the material they wish within certain guidelines. This work is recorded on Wednesday evenings. Other work There are of course a number of other jobs which include visiting the blind and visually impaired listeners, the whole of the administration work connected with the charity, the record keeping and the duplication of the cassettes each week. These all tend to take a little more time. This work is carried out as necessary throughout the week
