For bulkier waste there are 'Recycling Bank' sites at the Duncombe Street
Car Park and the Watling Street Tescos. Garden Waste, Scrap Metals, Car
Batteries & Oil should go to the Bleak Hall Depot although since the
local skip services was withdrawn this has become much too busy. Cheap
compost is available at the latter. The council is considering
a fortnightly green rubbish collection.
Parish Councillor D Anscombe has complained about the lack of co-ordination
of Milton Keynes Council services.
Residents to place refuse sacks and recycling boxes on their
property boundary with the road before 7
a.m. on a Thursday , which mainly involves placing
them on the grass verge or pavement. When the collection crews arrive
to collect them, the contents are invariably strewn in the road due to
the combined effects of the wind, scavenging dogs and cats and even starlings.
The street cleansing teams normally
do
not visit until the following Wednesday, i.e. the day before
the refuse collection starts again, hence any uncollected spilled rubbish
becomes widely strewn everywhere by the time they arrive.
When the grass mowing teams visit they generally also arrive on Thursdays. This means that the mowing crews either have to mow around the stacked refuse bags and boxes awaiting collection, missing large patches of grass, or waste mowing time by moving the bags, mowing the grass verges and then replacing the bags and boxes back in their former position. Due to the long elapsed time between visits, the very long grass cuttings blow into the road, also blocking the gutters and drainage gulleys.
