Cricket Pavilion/ Music Centre,
         Sherwood Drive
The Old Pavilion, which is situated near to Buckingham Road and Sherwood Drive, has become of concern in that it had been allowed to become in such a poor state that it was estimated that considerable sums need to be spent on it. There were concerns that it should be retained for community use and that the trees should remain untouched. It was unclear for a long time as to the owners of the site but it transpired that Buckinghamshire County Council owned the premises and adjoining land but sold the site amid great secrecy and speculation. The owners have applied for consent to fell 30 trees which they claim are dead. They also intend some re-planting.

The Milton Keynes Council has confirmed that the building, although not listed, is in the Conservation Area and, therefore cannot legally be demolished without prior consent of the Local Planning Authority. A Planning application had been made for part demolition and two storey extension to provide nursing facilities and alterations to accesses. Although the facade would have been preserved and the woodland cleared up, the footprint of the building would have been four times as large. The resultant building would be a two (or three) storey Nursing Home with 45 beds which will be run commercially. Specimen trees (with tree preservation orders) could be lost. The tree screen remaining may be insufficient to preserve the sylvan aspect of Bletchley from the south in view of the new glass fronted three storey college building proposed.

West Bletchley Neighbourhood Council had been involved in suggestions for its use with representatives of the new owner. However, at the September 23 rd meeting, the Milton Keynes Development Control Committee turned down the application because of the lack of community use, the size of the proposed extension to the original building, questions about road access and the need for an overall development plan for the area. West Bletchley Neighbourhood Council questioned this decision.

The site had alsp been considered as a potential access to housing near Wilton Avenue but the price was considered to be too high. The plot is currently up for sale again.
