There are now two Parish Council vacancies for Rivers
and Castles ward respectively. Cllr J. Phillips has now resigned from the
council. The vacancy is being advertised initially in case the electors
of Rivers Ward wish to call for an election. Cllr. R Beacham resigned from
the Council in January although other members of the council have not yet
been formally informed. Cllr Beacham was Chairman of West Bletchley Neighbourhood
Council during its final year. Following the resignation
of Councillor Phillips there was a further resignation by Councillor Vasilou.
Contact the Council Office if you
wish to volunteer or would support a call for an election in Rivers Ward:-
Previously during its first six
months four members of the Council had tendered their resignations.
Cllr. R. Padley (Previously
a Neighbourhood Councillor)
Cllr. G. Conchie (The first
Chairman of the Parish Council)
Cllr. B Myrie (Vice-Chairman
and Chairman of the Publicity Committee)
Cllr. C. Turnbull (Also resigned
as Milton Keynes Councillor)
(There are 27 members of the
council and elections every four years)
Replacement
members for the Poets Estate, Far Bletchley, Counties Estate, Denbigh,
Fairways Estate(Windmill Hill) and the Castles Estate have been co-opted
by the existing Council. Another councillor for Castles can also
be co-opted. A new councillor for Rivers Ward may be co-opted if there
is no support for an election.
A new Clerk
to the Council Jill Middleton has been appointed following the resignation
of two previous Clerks to the Council.
After the resignation of Cllr.
K Sisson as Acting Clerk (unpaid) in July, the assistant was appointed
Acting Clerk (paid) on a temporary basis. However for nine weeks as assistant
and then as Clerk, was not paid by the council. Following attempts to remedy
the situation she remained in dispute with the council and also resigned
before her temporary appointment was concluded. It is understood that Mrs
P. Wilson, wife of the prominent local Labour councillor for Woughton,
Kevin Wilson, was appointed Minute Taker and then temporary Clerk. Jill
who is a Chartered Secretary and MBA and has experience in both the voluntary
and public sectors took up her post in mid-February.
An Extraordinary Meeting of West Bletchley Council was called for Wednesday 19 th. September, 2001 at 7.45 p.m. at the Frank Moran Centre by the Vice-Chairman Brian Myrie and the Chairmen of the four committees. This is based on an admission by Johm Moffoot (Head of Democratic Services[?] of Milton Keynes Council) that none of the Chairmen of each of the Parish Councils in Milton Keynes Councils had been invited to sign a Declaration of Acceptance of Office. Therefore, the only business was the Election of a Chairman. George Conchie having resigned, Roger Bristow was nominated and was unopposed.
A full statutory Parish Council was elected on 7 th. June 2001. This was preceded by a Neighbourhood Council, which was formed as an interim measure before full statutory status was granted.
