During her report for 2001-2002 Mrs Simpson revealed that the cemetery would not now be relocated to the Sherwood Drive field due to the remains of a Roman Villa on the site. An archaeological field party was now at work. There had been future complaints about Cory's depot at Home Farm. Althogh the density of proposed housing in Bletchley Park had been reduced slightly in the local plan, the development was still unacceptable. A further proposal was expected for the Wilton avenue site. To celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee, it is proposed to plant an oak or ash tree on Church Green and hold an informal picnic party on the green on 4 th. June starting at 4.00 p.m.. There will be 'a street party' in Bletchley Park on 3 rd. June.
At 8.00 p.m. after the main meeting tea was available. At John Best, Strategic Director of the Environment for Milton Keynes Council, spoke about the reasoning behind the proposed bridge linking Granby to Sherwood Drive. He was accompanied by John Harper, another officer of the council who described the criteria presented to the government in order to obtain a grant of £13,500,000 for this project. This was subject to some degree of interruption. There was opportunity for questions and a discussion. Questions were raised about the overall cost, the traffic impact, the proposed height of the bridge and the justification both for the bridge itself and downgrading Saxon Street. The justification put forward to the government appeared to rest on a reduction of overall journey times. Milton Keynes Councillors Cllrs R. Bristow, R Jacobs and M. Legg attended and West Bletchley Parish Councillors J Armitage, A Vaidyanathan and K. Woodward were also present.
The 2001 AGM - 7.30 p.m. Tuesday 8 th. May in the Ballroom of the Bletchley Park included the reports of officers, the re-election of the officers listed above for next year and a report on 'Who is doing what in Bletchley' by Chris Simpson and Keith Woodward. Subscriptions were increased to £3.00 per household. Membership is now 186 households.
