Bletchley
Park (Church Green)
This is an area of varied housing of different ages
from 16C onwards and types from six bedroom detached to small terraced
based on the original village of Bletchley to the north of Buckingham Road.
Most are characterised by large gardens in proportion to the size of house
going up to an acre in some cases. It contains Bletchley Park Museum
and Conservation Area, the Bletchley campus of Milton Keynes College, Lord
Grey Comprehensive, Bletchley Police & Fire Stations, Bletchley Railway
Station, Bletchley community hospital, two Office Buildings (Challenge
House and Ericson) , St Mary's Church and Freeman's Methodist Church. It
is served by Holne Chase Combined
School and Rickley Middle School and
by Old Bletchley Post Office and a small local supermarket on Buckingham
Road. There are three public houses and a small hotel, which are the George
and The Eight Belles near the junction of Buckingham Road and Church
Green Road and the Old Swan and Shenley Hotel on Shenley Road. It is bounded
by Shenley Road, Whaddon Way, the Leys and the West Coast main line. More
Poets Estate
This area of almost entirely post-1950 housing
lies to the west of the Cable and Wireless Offices and the Abbey National
Computer Centre from which it is separated by the Eight Belles park. It
lies to the south of Buckingham road, north of the former Oxford branch
line and east of the junction of Buckingham and Newton Roads. Houses consist
of privately owned semi detached houses and bungalows with some detached
houses. It is divided into two groups of streets separated by Holne
Chase Combined school. The roads are named after english poets. A co-operative
society supermarket on Newton Road serves the whole Old Bletchley area.

Saints Estate
This includes some older village houses along Buckingham
Road but the greater part was built originally as pre-1940 and immediately
post war council housing in roads named after Saints to the north of Newton
Road and south of Buckingham Road to the east of its junction with Whaddon
Way. They are now mainly privately owned. It contains Chestnuts
Combined School, St. Thomas Aquinas Romab Catholic Combined School and
St. Andrew Baptist Church. The area also includes Selbourne Avenue and
Whitely Crescent to the south of Newton Road. The area is served by St.
Marys shopping centre containing a small local supermarket and a pharmacy.

Whaddon
Way Centre
The
Whaddon Way Shopping Centre is on the
north
side of Castles Estate and contains a combined local supermarket
and post office and a pharmacy. There is a community centre and an additional
hall. On the opposite side of Whaddon Way is Whaddon House surgery (Labrum
& Ptners). Nearby on Shenley Road are a petrol station, the White Hart
Public House and All Saints Roman Catholic Church.
Windmill
Hill (Fairways)
The Windmill Hill estate
with roads named after golf courses is on the east and south-east sides
of the Windmill Hill Golf Course and further bounded by Tattenhoe Lane,
Whaddon Way and Buckingham Road. Developed mainly in the 1970s, the Housing
varies from individual detached houses around Wentworth Drive to the north
off Buckingham Road, an estate of mainly detached houses off Windmill Hill
Drive and a estate of smaller houses parrallel with and to the west of
Tattenhoe Lane. There is a restaurant attached to the Golf Club. More
Rivers Estate
This is a large area bounded by Standing Way, Tattenhoe
Lane, Whaddon Way and Shenley Road North. In the south near Whaddon Way
are 1960s council built (but now mainly privately owned) semi-detached
and terraced houses with some small blocks of flats merging into private
developments to the north carried out up to around 1980. The area is served
by Rivers first school and the White Hart public
hoouse. It contains a private preparatory school on Tattenhoe Lane, the
RAF club and a Youth Centre on Derwent Drive. More

Racecourses
Estate (Chepstow Drive)
This is a modern New City development consisting
mainly of private housing ranging from terraced three bedroomed housing
to four or five bed detached. It has a small local supermarket and community
centre. It lies to the south of Buckingham Road to the west of the Saints
estate and Whaddon Way junction opposite Windmill Hill. The names of the
roads are those of well-known racecourses. More
Castles Estate
The Castle Estate is in a triangle bounded
by Shenley Road South, Whaddon Way and Buckingham. It is bisected by
Tattenhoe lane which contains older terraced housing. There is privately
built housing of varying ages along the west side of Shenley Road and the
north side of Buckingham Road. The bulk of the area is based on a
1950s - 1960s council estate with semi-detached houses and several blocks
of flats. Apart from the Whaddon Way Centre there is a public house (The
Three Trees) at the south-east corner and another at the Tattenhoe Lane/
Whaddon Way junction. All the roads have the names of castles. It contains
the 'Peter Pan Centre' but Castles first school is now merged with Chesnuts
Combined school. More
Melrose
Centre
Melrose Shopping Centre is set back from Melrose Avenue on the
south side of Whaddon Way.
It can be located by the local landmark of Mellish Court which is the
tallest block of flats in the area.
It has a supermarket, post office and pharmacy among its shops. A used
car showroom and vehicle repair garage are located nearby in Whaddon Way.
Facing the centre on the opposite side from Whaddon Way are the Dolphin
Public House, the Frank Moran Centre, the British Legion Club and Abbeys
Combined School. A GP surgery and Dentist are located along Whaddon Way
halfway between the Melrose Centre and the Whaddon Way Centre.
Abbeys Estate
(North-East)
Abbeys Estate is located in a triangular area between the West Coast
Main Railway Line and Watling Street to the east. Whaddon Way to the West
and The Leys to the south-east. The southern part was initially developed
around Westminster as council housing and flats. The northern and western
parts were developed as mainly private housing around Whalley Drive which
connects to the Bletchley Park area. Many but not all of the road names
are derived from Abbeys. More
Counties
Estate (West)
The Counties Estate was originally developed as council housing
now largely privately owned and flats to the north-west of
Whaddon Way and north-east of Shenley Road North in the 1960s. Road names
are those of English and Welsh counties. It is separate from the
estate of detached houses around Normandy Way which are normally
approached from Standing Way. Between the two areas are the former grounds
of Denbigh school which are now being developed as a private estate of
mainly detached houses. The area is served by Wellsmead
First and Middle Schools. It also contains the Roman Field school and a
GP and Dentists surgeries. More
Scottish
Estate (North-West)
This estate was also originally based on council housing but now consists
mainly of privately own detached, semi-detached and terraced houses. The
road names are those of Scottish Counties or association merging
to the north-east of the English and Welsh Counties and bounded by Whaddon
Way, Watling Street and Standing Way. There is a small light industrial
area between Denbigh Hall Drive and Watling Street. The area is also served
by Wellsmead First and Middle Schools. More
