Israelis are kept under a virtually permanent state of war preparedness with a well cultivated siege mentality. That is honed to leave dissent effectively isolated from perceived public opinion.
Palestinians and anyone else for that matter can elect anyone they please in bourgeois elections as long as they agree with Israel’s aims and objectives as endorsed by the USA inspired master plan of peace for the Middle East.
Israel objected to the temerity of Palestinians to demure from this carefully constructed consensus, and want to eliminate Palestinian resistance. And are prepared to go to any lengths to achieve their objective ably abetted by their allies in the G8 power block.
