About us & Paints

American Paint Horses, are well know in the United States for their Quality, Athleticism, Agreeable disposition and, distinct coat pattern. What’s more they are growing in popularity in the UK.. So much so that, the American Paint Horse Association (APHA) has recently granted a Charter to a new Association, the UK Paint Horse Association (UK PHA) who are promoting the breed in the UK.

The American Paint Horse's combination of color and conformation has made the American Paint Horse Association (APHA) the second-largest breed registry in the United States based on the number of horses registered annually. While the colorful coat pattern is essential to the identity of the breed, American Paint Horses have strict bloodline requirements and a distinctive stock-horse body type. To be eligible for registry, a Paint's sire and dam must be registered with the American Paint Horse Association, the American Quarter Horse Association, or the Jockey Club (Thoroughbreds). To be eligible for the Regular Registry, the horse must also exhibit a minimum amount of white hair over unpigmented (pink) skin.

Each Paint Horse has a particular combination of white and any color of the equine spectrum: black, bay, brown, chestnut, dun, grullo, sorrel, palomino, buckskin, gray or roan.

Markings can be any shape or size, and located virtually anywhere on the Paint's body.

Although Paints come in a variety of colors with different markings, there are only three specific coat patterns: overo, tobiano and tovero.

These colors, markings and patterns, combined with stock-type conformation, athletic ability and agreeable disposition, make the American Paint Horse an investment in quality.

Sue created Parkheath Stud in 1995. The whole family are Paint Horse enthusiasts.

We were lucky with our first attempt to breed a Paint. In May 1995 we bred our TB Mare to an Imported American Paint Stallion; Sonny Steele. The result was a Sorrell Overo Mare who we named TAOME, short for The Apple Of My Eye.

Since then we have gone from strenght to strength. We have continued to improve our stock through a combination of buying and breeding our own.

We currently have 12 Paints, 9 of whom are Pure-breds!

We now have our own Champion Stallion, "Whata Smoke" who we imported from Sweden and some other new additions from the USA

As well as starting the Stud we have brought together now over 90 Paint Enthusiasts in the UK and Founded the UK Paint Horse Association (UK PHA).

In Novemeber 2001 The American Paint Horse Association (APHA) granted us their Charter and we are now their formal Club in the UK.
