'Son
of a gun' was performed live by New found glory in their very first
shows in the bars and pubs of Florida. As fans of Nirvana (and music) will
realise that this of course is a cover song. A song that was written by New found glory back in 1997, yet was never released was called 'Envy'. I would be extremely interested if anyone out there could inform me of either the lyrics or even have a recording; though the song was only played a few times at their very first shows. |
| 'Cupcakes'
was a one off to be played by the band - a cover of a song by Gameface,
it was played because a friend of the band, Jason Brown (who became the
subject of the song 'JB') happened to have a birthday on the night of an
NFG show. They played this as a tribute to him, and he joined them to sing
along. As a present, NFG gave him a cupcake. 'Cyrus Bolooki' was the foundation for a song that was eventually released on 'Nothing gold can stay', the fantastic 'Never sometimes'. The lyrics evolved over time, and became one of there regular songs in early shows. |

Another
song that evolved into a 'Nothing gold can stay' hit was 'Nacho
Abalafa', becoming the fast paced 'Tell tale heart'. As with 'Cyrus
Bolooki' the lyrics changed throughout their original live performances. 'Blue hair' was only ever played two or three times before it was dropped by NFG. One of the lines within the song was 'Ian's got blue hair', inspired by the ever changing bassists bouffant. |
| 'For
the world' was played on a number of occasions, and is a cover of
Chad's old hardcore band Shai hulud. Once again this has only ever been
performed in NFG's very early shows, and I would be very interested to hear
either bands version. 'Pussy ass' was written by the band back in 1997, and has seen a number of different lyrics and titles. After being called 'Pussy ass' it became 'PA', followed by 'You've got a friend in PA' (ring any bells yet?), then finally becoming the 'Nothing gold can stay' track 'You've got a friend in Pennsylvania'. |

A lost song called 'In the middle' was dropped because MxPx, who at that time were more well known than NFG, released a song with a very similar bass line. Not wanting to be labelled as mimicking the band, the song was never played again after only three performances. |
