There are lots of family stories about the Lemin family ancestors. These range from originating in Brittany to being smugglers for centuries on the Cornish coast. The Lemin family are most likely quite ordinary, however having an unusual name this makes it much easier to trace those ancestors who have gone before us. One of the things that seemed particulary unusual about the family was that there was a disproportionate number of male Lemins called Solomon. Not only was I almost named Solomon in 1955 and with the exception of my father William, all of my direct line ancestors were all called Solomon, back to 1791.My family appear to have originated in Cornwall and then moved up country to work in the coal mines of Durham and Northumberland where there is now a proliferation of Lemin's in the area. The Lemin family appear to have predomiately lived in the Cornwall area and worked in the tin mining industry. Many Lemins moved from Cornwall to seek work all over England and Wales, finding work in the coal mining industry that was increasing production with the needs of the industrial reveloution. In addition to this Lemins also emigrated to the Americas and the Australasian Continent. One observation that people may find interesting is the number of Lemins that can be found in the Scandanavian countries many lemins can be seen on the Church of Latter Day Saints index. Other sources have indicated that the Lemins were possibly Hugenouts who fled percecution in Belgium and France. Please look at the male family tree which will indicate my direct decendancy back to 1550 ish. E mail me on arthur.lemin@fsmail.net
