Low Hall Wood

01.06.03 - Lea Bridge Conservation Volunteers install bird boxes at Low Hall Wood

This is a small and neglected surrounding woodland adjacent to Low Hall Sports Ground. Part of the site was used as a Council tree nursery until 1981.

In the wood itself, ash and sycamore are dominant and cherry is fairly common. Also present are horse chestnut and field maple ( a species normally associated with ancient woodland and old hedgerows), with a ground layer of bramble, stinging nettle and comfrey.

Along the east side of the wood flows the Dagenham Brook. The Brook is lined by fine mature willow, lime, ash and sycamore trees. The banks are devoid of aquatic flora, but are well vegetated with couch grass, cow parsley, stinging nettle, white deadnettle, prickly sow thistle, hogweed and comfrey. The brook provides a winter feeding area for the grey wagtail.

Access is via Low Hall Sports Ground.
