Waltham Forest Green FayreOn the 20th July 2003, the Waltham Forest Green Fayre took place at Langthorne Park, Leytonstone, E11. This was the borough’s largest environmental event which takes place annually. The Lea Bridge Conservation Volunteers played an important role in ensuring the success of this event. Their elaborate stall, included photographs of past tasks, previous newspaper articles and leaflets describing the aims of their organisation. Lea Bridge Conservation Volunteers Stall Sharing the stall with the Lea Bridge Conservation Volunteers were both BTCV and the Waltham Forest Tree Warden Group. BTCV (British Trust Conservation Volunteers) are a large environmental organisation to which the Lea Bridge Conservation Volunteers are affiliated. Apart from their weekly tasks, visitors to the stall also learned about BTCV’s exciting conservation holidays both in the UK and abroad. On these holidays people can make friends and enjoy themselves, whilst helping to improve the environment. The Waltham Forest Tree Warden Group provided information on their role in both the preservation and re-planting of trees in the borough.
Passengers on a Rickshaw and London Cycling Campaign Stall The London Cycling Campaign’s contribution proved to be invaluable. Their stall provided information on both the environmental and health benefits of cycling. Cycle prototypes were available for people to observe and ride. Children and adults were enthralled by volunteers taking them around the park on rickshaws.
Pony from Leyton's Own City Farm and Visitors viewing the Herbs Stall Other contributions added to the event included:- A large selection of refreshments was also available whilst a band played music. At the end of the day, stallholders and organisers were able to reflect on an extremely successful fayre. Visitors had left feeling more conscious of the need to protect our environment.
