Petropavlovsk (PK for short) - the proud capital city of Kamchatka. First impression is concrete-block soviet architecture, but under the covers there's some quaint corners and plush interiors.

Almost every direction in PK supplies a mountain view.

The temperature outside is usually -15C, but it with sufficient fur wrapping it's quite bearable.

Hot water is boiled up in one location and piped all around the city

Quite efficient, but occasional maintenance means the whole city goes without water.

At 7:30 in the morning, a fresh arrangement of ice flowers on the windows, and rush hour has started.

Not that anyone's going that fast. PK's icy roads often require passengers to jump out and supply additional traction.

The last statue of Lenin left in Russia presides over the central square and theatre.

Nearby, Captain Pugwash, presides over a beach of snow.

After a snow storm, every tree shivers in a coat of bright white blossoms.
