Kamchatka in Winter

The Home Volcanoes loom over the city of Petropavlovsk like great white sentinels. For those who live in the Soviet block concrete apartments of the city, these mountains must beckon like the proverbial "call of the wild", inspiring heroic feats of alpinism and endurance.

		Yelizovo airport is directly below Koryaksy.  If you land on a clear day, you're in for some fantastic views as you head for Petropavlovsk.   Petropavlovsk is closer to Avacha Volcano (currently active).
