St Hilda's was consecrated on 18th September 1882, on the day that news reached Leeds that Dr Edward Bouverie Pusey, the great Tractarian leader and founder of the parish, had died at Ascot Priory just two days previously. He had built St Saviour's Church at his own expense and in 1845 had made the first contribution to the Building Fund for a new church to be built - which eventually was St Hilda's - but he did not live to see it completed.  At first the building, specifically designed for Catholic worship by JT Micklethwaite, was quite plain; much of the
interior beautification was completed during the 1920s and '30s. The reredos, font canopy and rood screen are magnificent. Do come and see - perhaps on our Dedication Festival. Or come to our Patronal Festival on 17th November. We also take part each year in Treasures Revealed in Leeds and in the
Civic Trust Heritage Open Day scheme.
Over the years the people of Cross Green have faithfully supported their parish church which, through them, reflects the history of the area. At the same time it has always had an extra-parochial appeal for those seeking the Traditional Faith as handed down by the Apostles.

We are a parish registered with Forward in Faith. Resolutions A, B and C are in place. The parish is in the Province of York, the Diocese of Ripon and Leeds and the Deanery of Armley.
The parish is under the episcopal care of
Martyn, Bishop of Beverley.
