This page is just to give a little information about the current Fire Brigades Union pay campaign

Rally at FBU recall conference Manchester 12 Sept 2002

The FBU are asking for professional pay for a professional job.

They are asking for the pay of a qualified firefighter to rise from £21500 a year to £30,000 a year.

The firefighters shift system covers 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. They get no extra pay for working nights or weekends.

To train as a wholetime firefighter you generally have to complete a 13 week residential training course and it take four years to become fully qualified.

The green goddesses that local authorities are happy to use to provide your fire cover are 50 years old, have virtually no equipment, are unreliable and achieve a top speed of approximately 40 mph.

A green "goddess"?
