Felicity Kendal’s London debut was as Carla in MINOR MURDERS at the Strand Theatre, and after playing Katherine in HENRY V and Lika in THE PROMISE at the Phoenix Theatre in Leicester, she played Amaryllis in BACK TO METHUSELAH for the National Theatre at the Old Vic.This was followed by Hermia in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM and Hero in MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING in Regents Park. She next appeared as Anne Danby in KEAN opposite Alan Badel at the Globe Theatre, where she also played Anne in Alan Ayckbourn’s trilogy THE NORMAN CONQUESTS for which she received the Variety Club of Great Britain Award for Best Newcomer.
She played Mara in Michael Frayn’s CLOUDS at the Duke of York theatre, for which she received the Variety Club Best Actress of The Year Award in 1979.
She was in five plays at the National Theatre, playing Constanze in Peter Shaffer’s AMADEUS and Desdemona in ATHEL, both opposite Paul Scofield; Christopher in ON THE RAZZLE and Paula in THE SECOND MRS TANQUERAY. In 1993 she starred in ARCADIA directed by Trevor Nunn.
She played Annie in Tom Stoppard’s THE REAL THING, at the Strand Theatre, and later recreated Dorothy in JUMPERS at the Aldwych, followed by Frances in MADE IN BANGKOK at the same theatre.
She played the title role in Tom Stoppard’s play HAPGOOD also at the Aldwych, then, with Alan Bates played in MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING and IVANOV in repertoire at the Strand Theatre, for which she won the Evening Standard Best Actress Award. Her next play was HIDDEN LAUGHTER by Simon Gray at the Vaudeville Theatre and then TARTUFFE at the Playhouse Theatre. She appeared in HEARTBREAK HOUSE at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, AN ABSOLUTE TURKEY at the Globe Theatre, INDIAN INK, at the Aldwych and the Feydeau farce, MIND MILLIE FOR ME at the Haymarket. She went on to appear in WASTE and THE SEAGULL at the Old Vic, both directed by Sir Peter Hall, ALARMS & EXCURSIONS by Michael Frayn and Noel Coward’s FALLEN ANGELS, both on Shaftesbury Avenue, the former at the Gielgud and the latter at the Apollo. Felicity also
co-starring with Simon Russell-Beale in the West End production of HUMBLE BOY which transfered from the National Theatre to the Gielgud.

November 2006- February 2007 she played on the London stage in David Hares' Amy's View at the Garrick Theatre.
